Audience Research
The target audience specified in the brief are aged 16 to 25 and are of no specific gender. The majority of my audience is presumably from the North East although this is not definite as it could be watched by people from outside of the North East wanting to learn about the Sunderland skate scene as skating has quite a large audience across the UK.

Psychographics
Upon researching the 7 psychographic categories i have decided that my audience best fits in the 'reformers' tier. To me, skaters are often humble people who are not interested in frivolous, materialistic possessions. They value community, individualism and freedom of expression. With this information i can determine that my audience may also fit into the reformer category. I will reflect this in my documentary by shining light on the communal and social side of the scene.

Social Grade
I have identified my target audience as category E and D in the social grade chart. My main reason for this decision is the fact that my audience is aged 16 to 25 and at this point in somebody's life they are likely to still be in full time education, whether that be school, college, university or an apprenticeship. They may also be in part time work, possibly something to do with hospitality, retail or manual labor, which is why some may fall into the D tier.

How i can appeal to my target audience
I will use language to appeal to my target audience. This includes speaking confidently and with purpose in order to keep the audience engaged and interested. I know because of research that 85.7% of my audience is interested in learning more about the North East skate scene. This tells me that my project will appeal to the audience and the majority of people would want to watch it. I also think that people from outside of the North East would want to watch the documentary for educational purposes. These people may be involved in skating, in that case they will be entertained by the content, imagery and message in the documentary as they relate to it and see themselves in it. These people may also not be involved in skating and want to watch the documentary so they can learn about different cultures and be educated about North East culture as well as skateboarding culture.

I will also use imagery and cinematography to appeal to my target audience. This includes camera angles and techniques to boost engagement and interest. This can include footage of the participants skating in order to appeal to those who are involved in skating who would want to see that. This could also include camera techniques such as panning and zooming. These techniques are effective at invoking humor and suspense in the audience. It is used in a lot of comedy movies and TV Shows such as The Office. This will appeal to the audience as they have chose to watch the video because of the comedy.
