Evaluation

Having a lot of friends that are talented skateboarders, i knew i had a good opportunity to showcase local talent in my documentary and i knew that their talents needed to be shared and celebrated, which is why i chose to focus my project on them. Skateboarding is also something that my friends and i are very passionate about and so i had a personal connection with the subject, not only through my friends but through the act of skateboarding itself, which is another reason i wanted to focus my project it.  Research: In the researching stage of my documentary i focused on other skateboarding documentaries i found on YouTube. One i found was about Tommy Sandoval and his career in skateboarding including his descent in drugs and depression and journey to becoming sober. The documentary gave me good ideas of how skateboarding documentary are formatted, there is a lot of footage of skateboarding and voiceovers. I also watched more documentaries unrelated to the subject to get a better i...

Editing- Production diary.

Introduction section.  The introduction is made up of clips from old rough cuts of skate videos i discovered on YouTube. I edited these together for the introduction along with the music and the voiceover. For the music in the introduction i knew i needed something that is scary and horror themed to match and set the tone of the video from the very beginning. I also used a flame effect in the introduction when displaying the name of the video to emphasise the videos theme. I achieved this by installing a flame effect template from  the internet  and adding it to my timeline. i added it twice on the top and the bottom of the screen to create the effect of the full screen being engulfed in flames. I like this editing technique as it allows for a dramatic opening scene. For the first scene in the video i was filmed in different areas on Sunniside, smiling and giving 2 thumbs up. I decided that the comedic theme in the video also needed to be apparent in the early stages, the...

Final product

Image
This is the completed version of my video. I have changed several things since the first draft. I re-recorded the voiceover clips i was unhappy with. I made sure they were louder and clearer in order for them to be easier to understand. I adjusted the volume of all of the audios throughout the video. This is so they are consistent and allow for a better viewing experience. Some needed adjusting more than others in order to get a good balance between the different audio channels, and to make sure the voiceovers are not drowned out by the back ground music. I changed the timing on the audio and video transitions to create a more seamless flow between scenes.

First draft of my documentary

First draft of the documentary  After completing the first draft of my project, i have identified a few points which need improving for the final product. Firstly, the opening voiceovers were made when i was slightly uncomfortable with the idea of recording my own voice, so they came out quiet and hard to understand, but as i became more comfortable towards the end, i was able to speak louder and clearer. When i am improving the draft to complete the finished product i would like to re-record the first few voiceovers to make the dialogue throughout the video consistent.  I would also like to polish up the video transitions throughout the video to make them smoother. I may also make them longer in order to create a better transition between scenes.  The volume of the video clips/audio recordings is inconsistent throughout and i would like to set them all to the same decibel level so they aren't all different.
